Function The D7 protein is a family of small secreted proteins found in the saliva of blood-sucking insects, including mosquitoes. These proteins have been extensively studied for their role in modulating host immune responses and facilitating blood-feeding. D7 proteins are believed to act as anti-coagulants and anti-inflammatory agents by binding to components of the hosts coagulation and immune systems. By interfering with these processes, D7 proteins help mosquitoes to obtain a blood meal more efficiently.
