Nitrophorins are haemoproteins found in saliva of blood-feeding insects. Saliva of the blood-sucking bug Rhodnius prolixus (Triatomid bug) contains four homologous nitrophorins, designated NP1 to NP4 in order of their relative abundance in the glands.
